Thank you for the wonderful reminder that God is in control over all, is the cause of all things, and that nothing ever happens without His approval!!! Very nice writing Carson. It made me think which I don't do as often as I used to. I think that your final conclusion is the correct conclusion to the origin question. When the rich young ruler called Jesus good teacher followed by his question about how to inherit eternal life, Jesus was quick to ask him why he called Him (Jesus) good when only God is good. I've often thought that Jesus might have been making a veiled statement that He is God in which case the young ruler would have been correct in calling Him good teacher. We know from God's Word that we all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory and that God sees our good works as filthy rags (menstrual cloths) so all of us are put, by default, in the bad category....., but because God has placed His Holy Spirit in us and by that He does many good works through us. It is God and not us doing these good works. Philippians 1:6 tells us that upon our profession of faith that God began a good work in us and will continue that work until completion on the day of Christ Jesus. The sanctification process continues and even though it hasn't happened yet, our day of perfection is coming. My last scripture reference is from James 1, it reads My brothers, count it all joy when you fall into various trials (bad things), knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. This, for me, tells me why bad things happen to good (saved) people. As you said, it is God's will. I know my writing style is kind of rambling. Something like the man who goes around the block to get across the street. That happens a lot when you get old.
